A little room for the life between plans.
Not every loose end needs a better system. Sometimes it needs a place to wait.
There is a particular kind of list that gets longer while you are working through it. You book the appointment, then remember the form. You file the form, then notice the date. One small task opens a door into three more.
It can be tempting to treat this as a failure of organization. But a living life keeps producing loose ends. The point is not to stop that happening.
Somewhere to put it down
Try giving the unfinished things one ordinary place to land. A page in a notebook. A note you can always find. Somewhere that does not require you to decide what every thought means as soon as it arrives.
Write down the thing itself: “Ask about the spare key.” Not a new category, a color, and a twelve-step project. Just enough to return to it.
A place to keep something is not a promise to do it today.
Leave a little space
When you return to the page, choose what belongs in the day you actually have. Some things will become next steps. Some will wait. Some will stop mattering.
The page is allowed to hold all three.
